About:

There is no better way to explore the waters of Hawai’i than by Clear Bottom Kayak. Our ocean safe Clear Bottom Kayaks allow you to enjoy both, the view above and below, at the same time. Go at your own pace. Explore the underwater views through our expansive 2’ x 9’ window to the sea where the coral reefs are alive with colorful fish, honu (green sea turtles), eels, and urchins. These waters are frequently blessed by a pod of resident Spinner Dolphins and Giant Manta Rays who are often seen here.

We are conveniently located in the historical district of Kailua Kona, a short stroll from the National Historical Landmark Kamakahonu, the Kailua Pier, and directly across the street from the historical Hulihe’e Palace.

Our Clear Bottom Kayaks have a small water resistant storage area for personal items. We have both single and double seats available to rent. The material our clear windows are made of, also make the kayak a little heavier. Therefore, it is recommended to adventure with a partner for easier transport and handling. We provide wheels for our Clear Bottom Kayaks to make transportation to and from the beach a breeze!

Maximum weight capacity of 400lbs, including all personal gear.

What to bring:

Dress appropriately for a sunny day on the water. We recommend hats, reef safe sunscreen, UV protection sunglasses, a lightweight towel, and plenty of drinking water.

*Reusable water bottles, reef safe sunscreen, and towels are available at our Gift Shop for purchase if needed.

Why reef safe sunscreen?

According to National Park Service, 14,000 tons of sunscreen enter the coral reefs every year. Several of the most popular brands are made with ingredients that are harmful to both the coral population and marine life. Please avoid sunscreen containing any of the following…

Oxybenzone and octinoxate are banned in the state of Hawaii. Both are linked to coral bleaching.
Petrolatum (mineral oil). Mineral oil takes years to biodegrade and is known to be harmful or fatal to aquatic life and waterfowl.
Titanium Dioxide does not biodegrade and is found to react in warm seawater to form hydrogen peroxide which is harmful to all sea life.

The clear bottom kayak was a total game changer when it came to viewing sea life without snorkeling gear. My husband and I paddled around over 3 hours it was so much fun. The highlight of the experience was  having not 1, not 2, but HUNDREDS of dolphins swimming and jumping around us. The shop owner was so helpful in telling us where to find them and gave us several other recommendations for things to do on the Big Island. Absolutely would encourage anyone to book a kayak through Saltwater Soul LLC - trust me, you won't regret the clear bottom rental.

Notes: make sure to bring a waterproof bag to put your phones and car keys in as the boat will get water in it, especially if you're getting out to do a bit of swimming.
Depending on where you launch, it can be a little bit of a walk, but not bad in the slightest, 15 minutes tops.

We  will never forget this experience. She was super helpful in answering all of our questions prior to booking and also when we arrived. Getting the kayak to the water was easy w 2 people. Would recommend going on a slightly overcast day because the sun reflected off the water and made it a little harder to see but it wasn’t a problem at all. The owner was so sweet and informative - her hospitality made the experience that much more enjoyable.

This was so much fun to do, we seen s pod of dolphins, eagle ray, and colorful fish! The ocean is so blue and just beautiful! Great island adventure. And the best part was the service! Chris was extra friendly, serviced us well, gave us great directions and what to look for. He had life vests for all 6 of us, his equipment was fully equipped with extra accessories. He also held our belongings in a container at the shop, so we didn't have to leave valuables in the car. He also gave us couple minutes more for us walking to kayak location.  Verified Hawai'i was a dream
A landscape like no other in the world. The darkest-brightest most magical place on earth. We saw actively erupting volcanoes and beautiful waterfalls. Banyan trees are the most fascinating trees I have ever seen in my life. Night swimming with the Manta Rays is a must! Can't wait to go back and travel the other islands.

Great experience with this business. Quaint little shop in downtown. When we arrived, our kayaks were ready to go with paddles, microfibers, bilge pumps and fish ID cards. They were strapped to a set of wheels that made it super easy to walk them across the street for entry. We had enough people in our party to have folks stay with the kayaks while two people carried back the wheels. We were given a bike lock to secure the wheels if we wanted to. Entry was easy at the bay right across the road. Had a great time out on the water. Would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting.  Verified Amazing memorable experience with awesome small business
We absolutely loved Saltwater Soul’s glass bottom kayaks! We love the water and we’re excited to see it from this view. We have a 1 year old who’s very comfortable on the water so we were happy to take her out with us (we brought her life jacket for the experience to make sure it fit). Lori, one of the owners, was beyond accommodating. The boat was in pristine shape. They provide you with everything you need, even a “fish identification card” to ID what you’re looking seeing. The experience was fantastic. We rented all day (9 am - 4 pm). Took it in and dropped the boat off to go get lunch. Then went out again in the afternoon. The water was perfect, clear, safe for a kid. These clear bottom kayaks are so cool! You can see more below through the bottom of the kayak than from above the water! We saw dolphins, barracuda, a shark and breaching whales! So exciting!  Verified Clear kayaking experience
We had an awesome time, the kayaks were very new and Viator/Groupon offered a great deal for the experience. $23 per person for a tandem clear kayak for an hour which was enough for us newbies. If you get the two hour deal you get to use the kayak all day long. We saw fish and corals. Check in did take about 30 mins so plan accordingly. Also note that you should be able to lift and push a little bit as the shop is across the street from the water, about 5-7 mins walk pulling the kayak and you will need to load and unload the kayak. Which wasn’t hard if you’re pretty able bodied or have help (I couldn’t have done it alone). My parents were able to manage they’re in their 50s-60s. The operator was super nice and they sell sand cloud towels too! Would totally book again and recommend to friends

Seeing the dolphins under water, literally under my feet was amazing, lucky for me whales are in season and saw them up close for the first time! The store is right across the street from the beach made it easy to load the kayak into the water, the kids loved it as much as I did and will be back next time as we come to Kona often! 5 stars
